Airlines fined for lousy service 9 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0

I used to fly for Mesaba and had the exact same experience in the exact same airport. At that time the station was run by Northwest, who hated the regionals.

It seems the service hasn't changed.

There were some GREAT stations with GREAT managers but above that level, and especially at the hubs, I saw very little actual leadership or even supervision....

Curtman, do you know the difference between a pilot and a turbine engine?

Unless they forget to shut it down, generally the turbine engine quits whining at the end of the flight!

I spoke to a friend who still flies there.

Said I was right. Same old gang in Rochester and same old attitude.

He did make a good point that the Captain of the ship bears a good bit of responsibility for not being more assertive...

As a guy who used to work on turbines, THAT'S FUNNY. I worked with the land based aero-derivatives mostly and loved the ramp up acceleration.

Nothing like having a piece of cold pizza, doors wide open and listening to her ramp up at about 3 am after a forced shutdown.

I got stuck on the tarmac at Pittsbugh a long time ago complete with wife and kids aboard. Just glad we didn't bring the dog and cats along.

We sat there for about 2 hours and it was after midnight. US Airways? I think. The outfit that hubbed there. I remember when they were a regional called Allegheny Airlines.

They're the ones (US) who flipped the 737 coming into Pittsburgh several years ago. That one slammed down in the woods a few miles behind my Mom and Dad's house.

Anyhow that brought back some memories. Good Times...

Funny you should mention that because recently I've been learning a bit about stationary turbines....
